S Attempts A Replay of its “Afghan Trap” in Ukraine
S Attempts A Replay of its “Afghan Trap” in Ukraine
It may be telling that Putin has, at least publicly, lessened his support for East Ukrainian autonomy a few days after the Odessa massacre.
It is hard to tell exactly what happened there. Some people with red armbands at first presented themselves as anti-Kiev-junta protesters, then possibly seem to have switched sides to coordinate with the pro-Kiev police force, as well as people firing weapons at people in the burning building.
If this is what happened, then it appears to have been a provocation designed to get Russia to invade Ukraine.
However, five days after the event, Putin publicly lessened his support for the anti-Kiev-junta protesters, encouraging them to cancel their autonomy referendum and participate in the national “election” scheduled for May 25th.
Putin may have eased back after the Odessa massacre because he remembers similar US provocations to get the Soviet Union to invade Afghanistan:
From 1979, and possibly from the mid 70s, the USA funded and trained Islamic jihadist extremists, the Mujaheddin, and sent them into Afghanistan to commit terrorist atrocities and force the Soviet Union into invading the country to help its client government, under which Afghan women actually had rights.
Afghanistan in 1970s under Soviet-backed government
National Security Adviser to Jimmy Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski:
According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise: Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul.
That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap… The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter: We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam war. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a conflict that brought about the demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.
After many calls from Afghanistan for Soviet help against the US terrorist proxy forces, the Soviet Union finally invaded and fought a long, costly war against the US proxy terrorists that ultimately contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the destruction of human rights in Afghanistan as the USA then brought its terrorist extremists into power in the form of the Taliban:

Zbigniew Brzezinski is one of obama’s mentors, and a major proponent of aggression against Russia.
Putin may well recognize the Odessa massacre (there may be more to come) as the exact same type of provocation Brzezinski (today Obama’s mentor) and the USA carried out in 1979.
As the USA supported extremists in the 70s and 80s in Afghanistan (and elsewhere), today the USA is backing and supporting extremists in Ukraine, this time neo-Nazis and fascists, likely as a way to try to do what it proudly did before: entice Russia to invade, this time Ukraine, to try to stop the horrific terrorism being sponsored by the US, perhaps drawing Russia into an extended war that weakens it, and, the US hopes, helps precipitate its collapse, so it can become a cash machine for the terrorist sponsor state, the USA.
Obama has essentially endorsed the terrorism in public by saying, as the Kiev junta militias and neo-Nazi forces kill scores of people, that they are exercising great restraint, and it is their duty to “uphold the rule of law.”
For some reason, Yanukovych, the elected president of Ukraine ousted by the neo-Nazis, did not have a responsibility to uphold the rule of law.
Neither does the Venezuelan government.
But the Egyptian junta does, as it slaughters thousands, sentences thousands to the gallows after two hours worth of trials, and carries out “unprecedented repression” (Amnesty Int’l). Since the Egyptian junta is one of the groups that must “uphold the rule of law”, it gets hundreds of millions of dollars and attack helicopters from obama.
The pattern behind which forces are, according to obama and the USA, “upholding the law”, ensuring stability, etc., and which ones are “killing their own people”, etc., is painfully, stupidly obvious: any group that furthers US plutocratic looting and power expansion is “upholding the rule of law”, and any group that presents any kind of alternative or deterrent to US plutocratic looting and power expansion is “killing its own people”.
To miss this, you have to be a real authoritarian follower, dedicated to plugging your ears and singing over the majority of world events and trends, like this:
“…the US lost most of its influence in Latin America over the past 15 years, and the region has done quite well, with a sharp reduction in poverty for the first time in decades. The Washington-based International Monetary Fund has also lost most of its influence over the middle-income countries of the world, and these have also done remarkably better in the 2000s.”
Analyst Pepe Escobar agrees that Putin wants to avoid an “Afghan Trap” in Ukraine:
Putin knows better than to invent a new Afghanistan in his western borderlands.
Events have now played out further. Putin has decided to avoid the Ukrainian Afghan Trap, which the USA set to drain Russian resources like the Afghanistan war in the 80s, and instead has built up Russia, and anti-US-empire alliances, by finalizing an enormous, 400 billion dollar gas deal with China.
A reminder: obama and the USA don’t act out of humanitarianism. Right now, every country in the world should be contributing a percentage of its budget and troops to a UN mission help save those poor Nigerian girls.
Instead, certain governments try to use the tragedy as a way to increase their ties to and military presence in Nigeria. obama is doing it, and so is China.
The difference is that only one of those countries is a brutal global military empire and is, at least in the opinion of this Nigerian (backed up by Wikileaks documents), trying to destabilize Nigeria, and is possibly behind the group that kidnapped the girls. That country is not China, but the greatest threat to world peace, obama’s USA.
Throughout the world, on any given day, a man, woman, or child is likely to be displaced, tortured, killed or “disappeared”, at the hands of governments or armed political groups. More often than not, the United States shares the blame.
– Amnesty International
Indeed, the statement applies, as it was known, and came to pass, that the USA’s illegal destabilization and mass murder campaign against Libya would aid and strengthen terrorist groups including Al Qaeda and Boko Haram.
obama is a bad guy.
He schemed up new ways of preventing the Chagossians of Diego Garcia from ever being able to return to their home, which is illegally occupied by obama and used as a major imperial murder (and likely torture) center.
He cluster-bombed a farmer’s market, killing 21 children and 16 women (five of them pregnant), and mandated the imprisonment of the journalist who reported on the terrorist attack. (Cluster bombs are like what the Boston bombers tried to make, except obama’s are made by some of the world’s top Nazi scientists, and instead of metal shards, they use hard plastic shards so that metal detectors can’t locate them in human bodies and thus the shards can’t be removed to save the child or pregnant woman’s life.)
In early 2009, after Israel carried out one of the biggest terrorist attacks of the decade, which included targeting hospitals with US-made chemical weapons, Obama mandated a massive increase in US tax cash going to Israel, which was already the biggest recipient of US aid.
He sent the biggest shipment of lethal weapons in US history – 60 billion dollars worth – to his friends in the most repressive country in the world, Saudi Arabia.
He mandates and defends torture and defends the death penalty, which the vast majority of the world (90%), and all human rights organizations, condemn.
He sends hundreds of millions of dollars and attack helicopters to the Egyptian junta as it slaughters thousands.
And that’s just a tiny sample. Here are one or two others.
As reported by a group of African American women who visited with Obama after he was elected, he has “no moral center”.
He is an imperialist, supremacist demagogue who lies, like bush, to try to whip up support for his mass murder and looting campaigns. He has publicly called the USA the “exceptional” nation, ridiculously relegating all other nations to the status of unexceptional, in attempt to deceive the public into accepting the plutocracy’s wars of aggression for loot and power.
“The United States Foreign Policy Establishment consists of liberal imperialists, reactionary imperialists, and middle-of-the-road imperialists. But they all share in common a firm belief in America’s “Manifest Destiny” to rule the world.”
– Dr. Francis Boyle, JD, PhD
Of American demagogues like obama who incite violence and commit atrocities, Nelson Mandela said:
They don’t care for human beings.
