Nelson Mandela: An Icon To Be Remembered
Nelson Mandela, a leader and public icon, is still in intensive care after being rushed to a hospital for a recurring lung infection. His condition remains unchanged and his family and close friends believe that it may be time to let him go as it appears his condition will only get worse.
As a former leader of South Africa, Mandela has endured obstacles throughout his life yet has also enjoyed victorious moments. The 94-year old was imprisoned in 1963 for 27 years in South Africa for fighting against racial segregation. He was released from prison in 1990 and later became South Africa’s first president. In addition, Mandela co-won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, alongside former South African President F.W. de Klerk.
With constant supervision and care, Mandela has been situated so as to remain comfortable in his home with family and friends during these last moments of his life. There is no telling when the final moment will come; however, South Africa has united to pay homage to Mandela and his lifetime achievements.
Nelson Mandela will forever be remembered throughout history as he has proven that fighting against segregation is no easy task yet is necessary in order to gain equality in the world. His actions have succeeded in raising him to the top as one of the greatest leaders in South Africa and a true icon to his supporters.
