Sexual Abuse is a disturbing issue to discuss because it can happen to anyone, male or female, and is sometimes not reported. Whether it’s sexual harassment or rape, this form of abuse is unjustifiable and is a constant threat to people out there. With the rise of sexual assaults in the armed forces and with a large amount of victims not reporting their assault, this issue is a never-ending threat due to this because it appears as if the amount of sexual abuse cases will continue to rise so long as people are unaware of them occurring.

Many victims feel a sense of shame and embarrassment when harassed or abused, and hardly anything can be said or done to calm their spirits and assure them that what happened was not their fault and they shouldn’t feel anything other than strength or courage for moving on from what happened to them. Unfortunately, it’s not always that simple and some victims are reluctant to report what has happened, which is completely understandable yet leads to the growing number of unreported cases of sexual abuse in America.

According to the Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN) about 44% of all sexual abuse victims are under 18 years of age and 80% are under the age of 30. According to their website, there are over 200,000 victims (12 or older) who are sexually assaulted in the United States every year. 54% of sexual assault cases will go unreported and a shocking 97% of all rapists will never be indicted for their crime.

Sexual Abuse is never OK and therefore, more action should be taken to prevent these crimes from escalating further and to educate America about this unlawful activity.
